A new report by the CIPD has shown that organisations training staff to be leaders using traditional methods are failing to improve overall performance. This needs to be replaced by a more three dimensional leadership program which allows leaders to actively learn and adapt rather than approaching situations with prepared answers.

Bottom line, this means that the leaders of today are trying to fight the impact of recession with one hand tied behind their backs. Right now, workers need inspiration and motivation, these are not the kind of experiences and interactions that can be faked, and every organisation needs strong, enduring leadership in order to make it through to tomorrow.

By adjusting the way in which leadership is used and perceived, we are allowing potential to shine through and try fresh, unconventional approaches to organisational issues. Resilience and fortitude are essential resources in the current climate, and there is no better or more successful method of developing the necessary skill sets  than byripping up the textbook and encouraging leaders to find their own style and then evolving it with regular feedback.

If this change in approach is meeting resistance in your organisation, there are probably underlying reasons. The best way of overcoming this is to gather as much information about your employees and their experience of being a member of your organisation through an employee survey.
